LaundryMy DVG45N5300F/A3 gas dryer has a problem. It does not appear to be able to get past the power-on self-test (POST). Here's complete description of what I'm seeing:
1) I turn on the power using the POWER button.
2) Everything on the display lights up, looking like a normal power-up sequence so far.
3) After approx 5 seconds, the display begins to flash on and off at an approx 1-second rate.
4) No buttons or selections are responsive except for one, so...
5) I use the POWER button to turn off the appliance.
Have you experienced this problem? Not yet having had time to dig very far, I have my suspicions, but can you point me to likely suspects?
Many thanks for reading!
Other observations.
The dryer is clean, inside and out, including the exhaust line all the way out.
The drum/motor turns freely when tried. It's not seized.
Gas supply is available although I generally test using air dry, especially when indications don't point to this as a culprit.
I have tried some commonly-found reset/power cycling operations, etc. but they have not changed the dryer's behavior. I was not surprised by this.
The problem started suddenly. Unfortunately I wasn't there to witness its onset. It began when a family member operated the dryer normally. They reported a pop sound when turning it on. The best indication I could get from them is that the sound came from the operator panel area but I can't be sure of the reliability of that observation.
I have not yet visually inspected the boards behind the appliance's front panel.
I am more than technically and practically capable. There's likely nothing you could tell me that I wouldn't understand or that would make me hesitant to handle.

LaundryHello and Welcome to the Community, marbray! We understand your concern that the dryer isn't turning on and just giving a flashing display. We certainly want to help.
We appreciate your detailed description of what's happening, and we have two questions.
* Is the child lock turned on? There should be an icon that looks like the outline of a pad lock with a smiley face on it lit up on the control panel. If so, you can press the Temp and Time buttons both at the same time for 3 seconds.
* Is there any code that shows up in the display's Time Remaining field when the display is flashing?
This is the copy of the user manual for your dryer. Page 48 shows some information/error codes and the action needed to correct them.

LaundryI'm having great difficulty responding. The content filter is reporting:
The message body contains a word which is not permitted in this community. Please remove this content before sending your post.
Unfortunately, it does not show me which word in my intended reply is troublesome and, after a dozen tries, I have been unable to respond. I will try again later, when I'm less frustrated

LaundryI apologize for that. The content filter wouldn't let me post a useful message. I kept removing words to an unbelievable extent and was left with what you see above.
Thank you for the kind reply. I have carefully pieced-together some more information a little at a time, hoping that the content filter allows it. You wouldn't believe how much time I spent posting a simple message...
The image shows the display during its blinking state, when ON. The display comes up like this during the POST, then, after five seconds begins slowly blinking. Information displayed is unchanged, except that it blinks.
I don't believe that I could reliably discern if the safety-lock was active, based on what the display does, but it is not illuminated and I don't believe that it would be possible to see an error code.
