We bought the washer dryer set about 8 years ago, but have had this issue since early on and just lived with it.  During the wash cycle the washer emits a smell like rotten eggs.  If I drain and clean the overflow that is on the bottom and run the washer cleaning cycle the smell is gone for maybe 2 loads then comes right back.  NOTE when I drain the overflow the water has the same odor.  There MUST be some way to mitigate this smell; I simply cannot find out how. Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

Hi, Members_f89ZElO, Welcome to the Community! We definitely understand that the appliance that cleans your clothes shouldn't have an odor that comes back right after cleaning the debris filter and running a cleaning cycle.

Here's some additional things you can try for a Front Load Washer.

* Run Self Clean cycle with bleach (make sure the washer does not have any laundry in the tub)

- fill the detergent compartment with bleach - just to the max line.
- Self Clean button/setting names: Self Clean, Self Clean+, Pure Clean
- If your model doesn't have a specific self clean cycle, run a cycle with the Temp set to the hottest water setting.

* After the cycle finishes, wipe down the drum, gasket, and inner door using paper towels to remove residue.

* Run a Rince and Spin cycle to remove any remaining residue.

*If the odor persists like you noted above, try running the self clean cycle again - there may be more residue that needs to be removed.

* Check that the water being supplied to the washer doesn't have an odor.

* Check that drain hose is not down too far in to the drain pipe - it shouldn't be more than 8 inches.

* Check that the washer is level on the floor.

*There is a product available in the detergent aisle called a Washing Machine Cleaner, there are a couple different name brands. Make sure it's safe for Front Load Washers and follow the package directions. At your discretion, the self clean and washing machine cleaner can be run several times back to back as needed to help resolve the source of the odor.  We would also recommend running the rinse and spin cycle after these cleaning cycles.

Please feel free to let us know if this helped or if you have any additional questions.
