Hi All,

Yesterday morning I received a notification from (I think it was) Play Store saying that I had a number of apps that I hadn't used for a while and it would be worth removing them. I went through the list and chose the ones that I was happy to delete, pressed the button and they disappeared. Problem is that my "Email" app disappeared from my Home screen too. (I think that other things may have also vanished but I haven't worked out which ones yet!).

I have been through my list of apps in Settings and it's not in there.

Fortunately, I can still check my e-mails on my PC so it's not desperate but I would like it back for times when I can't get to the PC.

Any help for members would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Which Email App are you using? Did you do a search for the App?

Not sure and, obviously, I am unable to check now but it was the one that came preinstalled on the phone. I have looked for the app in the apps list in settings. I look in Play Store but the one that came up that looked similar (All Email?) actually wasn't and I kept getting ads for Temu (๐Ÿ˜ก) and other such similar sites so I got rid of that. Not sure where else I'm meant to look.

It's probably either Gmail (download from Play Store) or Samsung Email (download from Galaxy Store).

I've looked at the icons for both of those and it didn't look like either of those. This is the one in question - Email_icon.png

(Sorry about the size of this but I couldn't get it any smaller.)

That's the older Samsung Email icon. Which phone do you have? If you're able to download the app from the Galaxy Store, it should run on your device.

You can try restoring your backup from the Samsung cloud (assuming the backup has not yet been overwritten by a new backup).  You can selectively restore just your apps, rather than a complete restore.  No reset necessary, it will only restore what is missing.

If you were using the mail app regularly, it should not have come up in a "clean up" notification.  You are looking in the Galaxy store for the Samsung email icon that you are familiar with - the icon may have changed with updates - it now looks like a giant @.  You can also choose any other email app from the Play store.  Just don't choose an ad supported one.  I use BlueMail - no ads.  Thunderbird is now available for Android.  I am sure your email provider has an app of their own, although I find webmail providers' apps are untenable with ads woven into the message feed so it's hard to tell advertisements from your own emails.

Hi Mujibar,

Sorry, should have said earlier that it is a Galaxy S9. I can't find that icon in either the Galaxy Store or the Play Store. I'm not terribly technical about these things (I'm elderly, you see! ๐Ÿ˜„). If I download the current version of Samsung Email, will I still be able to access all of my old messages, contacts, etc?

Yes, you will. Sign in to your email account like you normally do. Everything should be there just like it was before. The app may look a little different because it's an updated version.

 Mujibar,

Many, many thanks for all of your help. I'm (sort of) back up and running again. The only slight hitch is that I don't have any emails pre-dating 25 December last year but that's not a biggie as they'll be on my PC.

Thanks once again to you and everyone else for the comments and taking interest in my little hiccup.
