No one asked for this. If I wanted to use Google apps, I would've bought a pixel. I get the whole fragmentation thing. But id .uch rather use Samsung messaging. How do we make a petition to keep our app?

Pointless, carriers are the ones that are stopping support for rcs in Samsung messages. Verizon stopped last year, I had to switch to Google back then

Than it need to be something to get these carriers to act right. I did wonder what happened to the rcs features I had. But RCS isn't even that big of a deal to get rid of an entire app that people love ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ it dont make sense

Carriers tried and failed to build their own RCS infrastructure. Google successfully built massive national RCS infrastructure that initially bypassed the carriers entirely.

Carriers have now partnered with Google to manage their Jibe Servers. In the process, the few carriers who actually had legacy RCS servers are beginning to shut them down.

Because of how the servers and the profiles work, either iPhone or Google Messages are required to use them.

RCS actually is a big deal because it is the end of the platform wars, taking on features like iMessage and FaceTime. Cross platform access to high quality media and proper support for messaging features is crucial for modern communication. RCS will soon be expanding to offer cross-platform video calling.

Beyond this, it is highly likely that Samsung sees their messaging app as redundant and a poor allocation of resources when they can adopt the universal solution for Android at a cost of $0 to them.

I still feel as tho its should be an option for the consumer. One of Samsung's biggest green flags was the ability to choose. And now theyre slowly turning away from that. When I say its not a big deal to get rid of an entire app, I meant some people would be fine not utilizing RCS Samsung is still the better app overall in my opinion and the platform war was never an issue with me personally Samsung messaging has a good couple features that I actually use that aren't on Google messaging and again, id just go get a pixel if I wanted to be crossed over to google's apps

I get it, but at the end of the day, Samsung has decided they don't want to put any more resources into it.

If Google Messages is a deal breaker and RCS isn't a problem, the easiest solution would be to download a third party SMS app like Textra, Chomp, or Handcent.

That's not really a solution though, before I was a solid supporter of Samsung Messages app, I tried everything under the sun in a bid to maintain my privacy but textra and chomp are made by the same dev, and it just doesn't work right, missing texts, and issues sending are pretty basic issues to avoid for any messaging app. Samsung Messages didn't have that issue, plus it looks fantastic. If Google is the only real option, then it's not an option but a decree. This is why we have laws against monopolies.

What kind of solution are you hoping for?

Samsung messages will soon be no more in the US.

Google Messages is default and is the solution for the vast majority of users.

Third party clients are less polished and less than ideal, but they are an option nevertheless.
