Legacy S PhonesI’ve been thinking about a small tweak Samsung could make to the battery protection feature. Right now, if you set your phone to stop charging at something like 85% to protect the battery, the phone just… stops at 85%. It works, but it also means you never see 100%, which can feel a little weird.
My idea is something I’m calling Scaled Battery Percentage. The phone would still physically charge only up to your chosen limit (like 85%), but the software would scale that range so it looks like a normal 0–100% charge. So when your phone hits the 85% cap, the UI shows 100%.
You’d still get all the battery‑health benefits, but the experience would feel more natural — no more “why am I always stuck at 85%” feeling. Just a healthier battery behind the scenes and a cleaner, more familiar display on the surface.
This way, you would get a full battery icon and Samsung can display whatever icon to indicate that battery protection is on.
The feature would be a toggle, and turned off by default perhaps?

If one puts battery protection on they *know* they are not getting a full charge. Their battery life will still be calculated by that 85% charged value. Showing you a number that is not true serves no purpose. Just set your battery protection settings to adaptive. Even with no battery protection on at all, you will still get at least 5 years out of your battery. I have never in my life put battery protection on and charge my phone to 100% every night, with no degradation that I can discern over time. I suppose that by the time I notice any deterioration, I will have had the phone long enough to be ready for an upgrade.
