However, there are times when SmartThings may fail to add your Samsung TV during setup or stop midway through the process. If your Samsung TV won’t connect to the SmartThings app, following the troubleshooting steps below to resolve it.

Software Updates

Outdated Software is one of the most common reasons the SmartThings app fails to add a Samsung TV. Make sure all devices are fully up to date.

Restart Both Devices

Both devices sometimes need a quick refresh so that they can see and connect easier, it’s always good to start fresh by powering both devices down and restarting below you can find tips on how to restart your devices.

Restart Your Phone

There are several ways to restart a Samsung phone. Follow the steps in this guide if needed: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10001374/

Restart Your Television (Power Refresh)

Instead of turning the TV off with the remote, unplug it from the wall.

Leave it unplugged for 30-60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

This helps fully refresh the TV’s Network connections.

Check the wireless network status

To add a Samsung TV to the SmartThings App:

  • Both the Phone & TV must be on the same Wi-Fi Network
  • Both devices must be signed into the same Samsung Account
  • If using a dual-band router, connect both devices to the 2.4 GHz network for better compatibility.
