Re: HOW TO MANAGE ENCRYPTION OF 960 PRO

That's great news that it works on ASRock! Now we just have to see if Asus can fix it for their boards as well.

Re: HOW TO MANAGE ENCRYPTION OF 960 PRO

So I got a 970 evo 1tb and cannot get it work, stucked in "ready to enable". BIOS was newest (ver. Mar 28 2018)

Anyone any luck on this? even not a samsung nvme?

I got a feeling that not a single MB/BIOS on the market support this eDrive on NVME as boot drive. What Samsung said it worked was on a testing BIOS on a testing board from a BIOS make. I would love to be proved wrong yet unfortunately this fix may not be pushed to public anytime soon due to hardware/compatibility issue...

Booting off of an eDrive NVMe is the part that appears not to be supported by motherboards. I was able to get a 960 Pro to encrypt with eDrive as a secondary (non-boot) drive.

When I upgraded to the 970 Pro, I couldn't even get it to enable as a secondary drive. Ran into the same issue of "ready to enable" no matter how many times I secure erased, reinstalled windows, or reinitialized the drive. The 970 series simply refuses to go into "enabled" state.

Oh that's new. So the 970 series was even worse in this?

Spent a day try to enable this, secure erase, enable/disable CSM, clean install win10, etc. Wish this info was more publically available, not just the "secure erase then install OS" in Magician.

So, my first reply to this thread has been deleted and no mod answered why... Smiley Frustrated

I will not post my whole answer again, just in short: eDrive works with a Samsung NVMe SSD as boot device in a Lenovo T480s Smiley Happy I used a 970 Pro 1TB, but it should work with a 960er as well.

Are you absolutely 100% certain that the drive is self-encrypting and not software encryption on this T480s, sir? In an elevated command prompt, the command "manage-bde -status c:" (use your drive letter if different) should tell you.

Yes, I am sure. I posted the "proof" already, but it was in my post which has been deleted (I still don't know why).

So here are my outputs again (sorry, it's in German but I think you will get the important parts)

This is amazing.

How did you do it?

I did: secure erase in other computer (since Samsung's Secure Erase USB doens't boot in EUFI, so I put SSD + USB in old machine), put in new machine, put on Windows, try enable bitlocker. Bam, no go, asks for Full Disk or Used space.

Re: HOW TO MANAGE ENCRYPTION OF 960 PRO

I bought a Lenovo T480s, used optimized defaults in BIOS (plus a few, minor changes), installed Windows 10 & Updates, installed Samsung Magician, checked for updates for my UEFI and the SSD (both were up to date), set eDrive to "ready to enable", created a Secure Erase USB stick, disabled UEF/enables CSM, booted from the stick and did a secure erase, enabled UEFI/disabled CSM again, installed Win10 again, enabled BitLocker, done.

What PC are you using? Like I said I am using a Lenovo T480s and a 970 Pro.

run the manage-bde.exe -status c: and see what your status on the encryption is

also i'm looking at the t480 and it appears the nvme drive connects via a sata type adapter cable. wonder if that has anything to do with it.
