Samsung 970 EVO 1TB - NVMe PCIe M.2 , compatible with Dell Precision 5520 ?

JUMP TO SOLUTION

Hi, I am thinking of upgrading my Dell Precision 5520 SSD (currently 256GB, PCIe M.2, 2280) .  So I am looking at 970 EVO 1TB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSD (MZ-V7E1T0BW).  My question is if this model is compatible with my laptop.  I have googled a lot, but found nothing.  So a confirmation from here would be greatly appreciated. !

ok, please let me tell what happened:  I got no answer from here, but went ahead, bought a 970 EVO 1TB - NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD anyway.  It turned out this $227 SSD from Amazone works just fine in Dell Precision 5520 laptop.  Hope this info will help others who want to do the same thing.

I should add that the reason I am asking this is that I have a 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD in a Dell Precision 5510 laptop. I tried to put that Dell 512GB SSD (from 5510) in my new 5520, but that SSD does not get recognized by Ubuntu 16.4.  So I need to know if this 970 EVO 1TB SSD would work in 5520 laptop.  Thanks  - H.M.

Hi userchz8YywoK2,
Is the system is seeing the drive at the BIOS?

More accurately, my case is that my new Precision 5520 actually sees the SSD transfered from the old 5510 , and even
allowed the installation of ubuntu 16.4 TLS.  It is just that after the Ubuntu installation, the 5520 would not be able to
boot up, and function properly.  The funny thing is that after I gave up, and put the SSD back into to the old 5510 laptop,
the 5510 boots up with the same SSD that has the Ubuntu just fine. That got me thinking that there might be some
subtle difference between the 5520 and 5510 in their SSD support, and so I want to find out if anyone knows for sure
this 970 EVO 1TB PCIe  M.2. SSD would work in  Dell Precision 5520.  Thanks
