Hi Everyone

update.

For months I have been chasing Samsung re: firmware updates, eventually I got hold of 2nd level support and a technician that actually knew something instead of giving me standard pre-canned responses.

I was using 1004 firmware and then upgraded to 1005, unfortunately there was not any improvement.

However, Samsung support gave me access to v1301...a big jump in version numbers and now this is on the support websites to download as a USB update. (I am not sure if it is available via auto updates as I had upgraded them all manually as at the time, the auto update process didn't have the new firmware).

I can say that this version 1301 has "improved" but unfortunately not eliminated the screen blanking issue. This is very disappointing, but that being said it is happening a lot less these days once I have upgraded to this firmware.

So if you are running on anything less than 1301 and have this issue, I suggest you upgrade to the new version. You won't regret it. I have contacted support again, to find out if they are still going to continue looking into this problem. [I have also indicated that I have another problem with the Settings - Number - Color button on the remote, and that my remote eventually stops responding to my monitor - oh well will have to wait for that to be fixed.]

Anyway back to the monitor problem. I only seem to have the problem with Display Port. (Don't matter what frequency as it still occurs - FYI I operate the monitor at 120Hz. But tried 60Hz and 240Hz and still same issues. However, if I use HDMI I don't have any issues at all. I am using a NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super; using G-Sync Compatible/Adaptive Sync.

I have this monitor (as well as a G6) connected to my main PC using Display Port and then a work PC connected via HDMI. I am mainly on HDMI during the day and have NEVER had the issue with HDMI on the G8. However, when using Display Port, the problem still exists. (BTW the G6 has never missed a beat - so if you only use one computer connected to the monitor I will suggest you change your cable to HDMI. But if you are like me that use two computers connected up, the one using Display Port will probably still have an issue.

Do other people still have this issue with the screen going randomly black for about 1-2 sec from time to time? What Frequency (Refresh Rate) are you using?

Thanks

Neal

Of course it didn't, it's not a Nvidia issue, but a Samsung one. I got an equivalent MSI display and have had no problems. Samsung support is gaslighting you.

I hear you wymanb, but how do you explain comments like this in Nvidia release notes for 527.70 drivers - "PC may boot to a black screen when connected via DisplayPort with certain monitors [5131002]"

Do you see monitor manufacturers doing firmware updates?

Why only certain monitors? Surely Nvidia cards work with all monitors.

As you can see, maybe Nvidia has an issue with Samsung G8 OLED for whatever reason but not with your MSI replacement monitor. If Samsung could fix it I am sure they would have.

I understand it is weird only a specific model(s).... but I am inclined to believe Samsung at this point, given the last few drivers released by Nvidia that say fixing issues with specific monitors.....

But I am not ruling out that Samsung has some part to play in all of this.

I am not defending Samsung by any means (especially given the past in how they have treated me)....but I will give them the benefit of the doubt for the moment.

Enjoy your MSI.

I believe this is an Nvidia issue as Samsung has said. I have the G8 Neo and back in November, I boxed it up and had to use my TV with my PC for a while (moving office!). It was plugged in with DP Cable and I had zero issues with it. Last week, with my office all setup, I brought the G8 back up and plugged back into my PC with DP and I am experiencing the same issues as above. Same setup, only difference is updated Nvidia drivers.

Same issue right here. Record date 03/11/2025. Tried with a new DP 2.1 from Ugreen sold by Amazon, also tried updating to latest version, even with USB flash method, even I frequently update my Nvidia card (RTX 4090) at NVIDIA App and it's not working any way. However, I'm unwilling to get freehands support by a Samsung technician because it will be useless since you all mention they are washing their hands of the point after all.

I love my monitor, but as said, It's frustrating this black screen. I've found a "suggestion" given by the proper monitor support interface within it and for them it's related with turning off energy saving settings like pixel refresh or auto brightness, although I had all these settings turned off, so I guess this won't be the problem.

I agree with some of you claiming it's problem of Nvidia, but are they really that dumb they don't even notice this monitor error throughout all the updates they release almost every two weeks? Holy moly.

I hope this lawbreaker comments from this humble servant might help and relieve all minds experiencing this problem, so I tell you all are not alone.

Do you get constant black screens or does your monitor just go black for a second or two about 10min after powering it on? I am using 1313 firmware for Samsung Monitor and 572.70 Nvidia drivers and using DP connection. I only get black screen for a second after about 10min.

I do not get the black screen issue if using HDMI cable.

I prefer using DP (for my setup).

Samsung support is hopeless, and so it seems, Nvidia.

Yes a lot of people can't understand why such a premium monitor, with great sales etc have this issue with Nvidia cards! Surely it should have been fixed now.

I have seen the test results from Samsung and in their tests they have not seen the issue (or simply that there people were not looking intensely at the screen during the test!), however after constant contact with them, escalation to head technician and videos to prove that I was not crazy. They believed me and are trying to reach out to Nvidia.

At least they are aware of issue. All I can say is that the more people complaining to more pressure it puts on the companies to fix it. The easiest solution people go for is using HDMI cable.

At least after their investigation they have determined it is Nvidia's issue. And by the release notes of a lot of recent driver updates, Nvidia have had black screen issues with other monitors (sometimes they do not name them).

I have put some links up previously on how to get logs from nvidia cards and also how to contact Nvidia! You may want to try and contact them as well.

Atm, I am waiting for next update from my Samsung contact to see if they have made any progress with Nvidia yet?

I have the same problem too, (using a RTX 3070Ti) Monitor Firmware is 1313 / Nvidia App Version 572.70.

Happened today when i was in a match in Marvel Rival's the Monitor went black and waited for like a second or 2 before it came back. so it could also happen while gaming.

Happened to me also before when the Monitor is on after 10 minutes or so as mentioned above.

it seems the issue happens once the monitor is turned on it's either one of the above and then i don't see it again after many hours of use.

Hopefully we get to see a fix update for this issue cause it's getting annoying especially when gaming.

This monitor was high on my wishlist for its price, but this long ongoing issue is starting to make me doubt that decision. I really don't know if I can justify getting it if this issue is that prevalent for so many users in here. And its been going on for a long time. I only have 1 HDMI port on my GPU and it will be for my TV, so I can't just swap away from DP and I should not have to anyway.

It's messed up that this still isn't fixed. Is there any video footage of what this looks like in usage? I see many reports but I can't find videos on it. This monitor stood out to me because of its coating, I don't want to deal with the QD OLED microscratching, but if Samsung won't fix this then I don't want to deal with this monitor.
How annoying.

Reports as far as 9 months back. Even if its an NVIDIA issue and not Samsung, Samsung should have solved it by now with NVIDIA. This is unacceptable for people paying 1k for a display. Come on.

I'd like to get on NVIDIA for this issue too but I don't have the monitor or logs. So I can't supply them with anything. What would be a good place for something like this to get some traffic?

Hi Yaari, I have video recorded what happens at 10min once the power comes on and the screen goes black. However, it has some personal details in video so i can't post it. I could do another one for you and post a link here if you like?

It only happens once about 10mins after turning on monitor. I agree with all your points!

This should have been fixed by now, its not good for Samsung. But from what I have seen they were not aware of it...their test results that they have shared with me, indicate a 'pass' so obviously there testing was not thorough. Luckily, they now recognise the problem and trying to get Nvidia to resolve it. But with all big companies, take a long time to address issues.

Coincidentally I sent an email to Nvidia, as per details at this website - https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5149

I have done now two memory dumps. I have sent one to them, waiting for them to reply before I send the next one. I will report back (IF) when Nvidia respond!

All I can say, for people on here with this problem.... please submit the issue to Nvidia. There is no point just complaining on here, no one will see it... the more people that submit/email Nvidia with the issue (and also email/contact Samsung) the more likely it will be resolved. Honestly, if this was mentioned on a high profile monitor review site, then maybe Nvidia/Samsung may do something more?! This is the only way I think we can get some "traction"

What is interesting about the link above is that this KB article is all about getting log details when you display flickers or goes black!! So obviously Nvidia is aware that their drivers can cause issues, otherwise why would they have this KB article???

I bought three of these monitors, as 4K, OLED, Flat and non-glare screen coating. Everything I was waiting for in a monitor. When they originally arrived the screen would go black every few minutes!! Now for me, it only happens at the 10min mark. So for now, I am ok to live with it for a while until it is fixed.

I agree, it is unacceptable for this expensive monitor to have this issue, but when large companies 'rush out' monitors to be first to market etc. then bugs/issues are a given. I will reach out to Samsung again next week if I dont hear back from Nvidia.

Hi,

Yeah if you could, please do. I'd love to see it.

So for you this occurs exactly at 10 minutes in use, when it has been turned on (if I am understanding it correctly) and not completely random?

I've seen the complaints on Reddit and some other boards. NVIDIA has some forum too where maybe we could raise the discussion about the problem. Although if you are already in contact with them about it then I guess you are a step ahead already. But I think it is still important to show that it does seem like a widespread issue here.

It would be nice if we can take it to their forums as well as for example the oled_gaming reddit, which has a lot of users. I'd love to get more people involved on this because it seems as if every user of a G80SD monitor and a NVIDIA card is suffering from these issues.

Does this also happen with the G8 34 inch?

Yes at the 10min mark after powering on. Only for Display Port;I use Display Port for my personal computer.

When I use HDMI (when connected to a work computer) I never encounter the problem.

So for me, I am willing to accept this atm, until a fix can be found. Whereas, before when it was first released with 1004 firmware from Samsung and different Nvidia drivers, the black screen was random, all the time and I could not get on with my using my PC!

I am not sure about the new G8 34", 32" was large enough for me. To big a screen the DPI becomes noticeable. Especially with Fonts on how the pixels are orientated you get red/green fringing. 32" is sweet spot. But definitely would be interested to see if it does occur with the 34". I also own 2 x G6 OLED when they came out at the same time. The G6 is a 'rock solid' monitor.

I will aim to upload a video later in the week.
