I have a 500 GB Samsung SSD 870 EVO and am running Samsung Magician 8.2.0.

I was prompted to upgrade to 8.3.0 and had several issues:

  1. My computer took minutes to boot up instead of seconds
  2. When I finally got Magician to load, it said it didn't recognize my SSD and the SSD has an invalid serial number
  3. It also failed to recognize some of my other HDDs, but not all

I uninstalled 8.3 and rolled back to 8.2 and all works normally.

Is this a known issue? Is there something on my end?

Uninstall 8.2 and clean the registry. Then install 8.3. Don't forget to tap allocate space for cell swapping. There is also performance tweaks if your a mind to do so and check for firmware updates.

Clean the registry with CCleaner? Something else?

I'm on the most current firmware.

What is "Don't forget to tap allocate space for cell swapping"?

I did the following:

  1. Uninstalled 8.2 and rebooted
  2. Ran Ccleaner registry cleaner with all options selected, deleted the issues and rebooted
  3. installed 8.3 and got the same issues as before. Magician takes almost 5 minutes to load and then doesn't recognize my SSD and says the SSD has an invalid serial number
  4. Uninstalled 8.3 and reinstalled 8.2 - it loads in a few seconds
  5. Rebooted and running 8.2 with no issues with all drives recognized

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Ed

Hello elprice7345,

When 8.3 is installed, does the Magician show any information under "drive detail" ?

Can you provide a picture of what is shown there ?

I found this.

Samsung Magician was not picking up my 860 EVO. After a few good hours of trying to install drivers and deleting volumes and formatting the drive, I managed to get it going by going into "storage spaces" in windows, deleting the storage pool and creating a new volume with disk management. once I did that, I re-scanned the drives with Samsung Magician and it worked.

Thanks, but I don't have any storage spaces configured.

It's called SSD over- provisioning, I believe Magician initially sets up 6.7% and you click to enable it. OP has many benefits.

CCleaner is safe use, I use much more advanced registry Cleaner and it has never caused a problem.

I have a 1tb Samsung 870 ssd, 2 850 pros with 10 yr warranty. I started with the first Samsung ssd the 470 which lasted 4 yrs then gave up the goat.
