ViewFinity S9 Mac 60Hz support

I just received a Samsung ViewFinity S9 and have hooked it up to my 2017 iMac via USB-C Thunderbolt.  I had been using an Apple 5K display this way.

I can connect via 30 Hz but not 60 Hz.  With the Apple Monitor, I can do 60 Hz.

I have tried the USB-C Thunderbolt connector that came with the Samsung monitor and the USB-C connector that came with the Apple 5K monitor.

Is there some setting that I am missing?

Not having received any information to solve this issue, I returned the Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K Monitor for a full refund.
