Windows 10 Pro only set up 2TB for use on Samsung SSD 860 Evo 4TB

JUMP TO SOLUTION

Hi, I had a Samsung SSD 860 Evo 4TB installed on my PC. After setting up the drive for use, Windows 10 only set up 2TB of usable space. Samsung Magician however show that 3.7TB written under Drive Health.

System:  Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bits

Samsung SSD 860 Evo 4TB Firmware: RVT04B6Q

Samsung Magician Version: 6.1.0

Question is, how can I set Windows 10 to use up the full 4TB storage space? Can I use Samsung Magician to perform the task?

Appreciate any suggestion and thanks in advance.

Hi userhvPblTyQxc,

What does the disk show in Disk Management?  If it’s showing 2TB usable and 2TB as unallocated, then it’s likely you may need to convert the drive to GPT.  Please be sure to backup any data off the drive before attempting these steps as it will delete all data from the drive.

To do so:

Open Disk Management

Right-click on the 2TB allocated volume

Select delete volume

A prompt will display with “Deleting this volume will erase all data on it.  Back up any data you want before deleting.  Do you want to continue” Select Yes.

Now you should have two unallocated spaces on the drive.  Right-click on the disk itself and select “Convert to GPT Disk”

Right-click on the unallocated space and select “New Simple Volume”

Continue through the wizard and set the partition sizes to your liking,

Let me know if this helps!
