Received my Note 8 on Friday (9/15) and on Sunday started noticing the screen was intermittently unresponsive when trying to access the notification area. By the end of the day on Sunday, trying to use my finger to access the notification area was useless. The few times I was able to pull down the notification area, the screen would be completely unresponsive in ANY area. The only way to unfreeze it was to lock my phone and then unlock it. The only way I was able to access it, without issues, was with the S Pen. Got my phone at Best Buy and talked to the Samsung Galaxy "specialist"...that guy was no help, as most of these people that work these jobs aren't ("Genius" anyone). We factory reset the phone and issue continued. Best Buy was no help. They wanted a $35 restocking fee. Told them nope. Called Samsung tech support and best they could do after reading off his prepared script was to return my phone and wait a week to see if they can fix it. Seeing as I have a year warranty with Samsung, going to wait for a software update and see if the issue is resolved.
My rant there. Anyone else experiencing this with their Note 8?

Haha...no, doesn't sound stupid. Been around technology long enough to know that even something like that could be the problem. But to answer your question, yes, clean dry fingers.
What's also perplexing is that I can touch that area and I am able to add pages, widgets, rearrange Homepage. Seems just the act of sliding my finger to get the notification area to show doesn't register. I can keep swiping and swiping and nothing and in the off chance that it does show, the screen is unresponsive to any sort of input.

I am having the same problem. It started by when ever I was on a web site and trying to read an article, the notification/setup would just just take over the screen when I tried to use my finger to scroll up or down. So I cleared the cache for the memory and it stopped. But then it would not allow me to use my finger to pull down the notification area. I can only do it using the pen. What gives? Can someone from Samsung pipe in on this thread, or are we all alone to fix this ourselves? Need to know soon so I can either return it and go back to my S6 or try the new Apple!
