When you swipe away notifications it deletes badge counts on emails messages ect

I have set the notifications and badge icon and I do no other get the count of unread emails and text messages. All my settings are to get thr badge count and notifications. I want to be able to see how many unread emails I have.

Yep, ever since Android 8 (Oreo) this has been the functionality.
