Dual sim card mobile network Q

I have a international dual sim note 20 ultra 5g phone on a T-mobile network. I am trying to figure out how to stop the automatic mobile data switch between using the preferred sim which is T-mobile and secondary sim which is Google fi. The solution for me is to hold the mobile data on the preferred sim which shows as an option but will not stay connected.  Need help troubleshooting this problem???
