Messages options grayed out!

Got new Note 20 Ultra 5g from Verizon and the message notifications stopped working.  Read some fixes here and did the solution have worked for others, however there are two messages options that are GRAYED OUT! The first is the setting to SHOW NOTIFICATIONS,  and the other is EMERGENCY ALERTS!  I Still have no audible messages alerts.  This is insane.

there's no option for 'New messages'? Press the words to go into the settings.

Are you using the stock messages app or Verizon Message+ app on your device?
