Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G with the latest software update.
From the Gallery app home screen basic search.
Touch the search icon and type:
The name of an Album = no results
The file name of a picture = no results
The date of the picture = no results
The tag assigned to the picture = no results
Why have a search facility if it doesn't return any results? This is my second attempt at describing the issue. Any understanding assistance appreciated.

Do you know how to check permissions for an app?

Make sure Gallery has permission to access Files and Media

Maybe then try clearing the data and cache and letting it rebuild

Hello, We understand the frustration of not being able to locate a photo in the Gallery. We've done some testing on our Note 20. It looks like it depends on the data saved in the photo.

Try this:

1. Select a photo in your Gallery

2. Select the menu in the bottom, right corner. Then select Details.

3. Tap Edit and select either the Date, Title, or Location and enter the information for the photo and select Save.

4. Go back to your Gallery and try searching for the information you changed for the photo.

Let us know if this helps.

I see. Have you tried clearing the cache partition of the phone and repairing the apps in the recovery menu?

To get to recovery mode:
- Turn off phone
- Once off, hold down volume up and power buttons simultaneously
- When Samsung logo appears, release power button BUT KEEP HOLDING VOLUME UP until the recovery menu appears
- Use volume buttons to navigate down to clear cache (NOT CLEAR DATA/ FACTORY RESET)
- Use power button to select.
- Run the repair apps option and your device will restart.
I'm not sure if this would make a difference, but try putting the phone in Safe Mode and doing the search in the Gallery. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

Cleared cache, ran repair apps, tried the search - no results returned. Put phone in SAFE mode did search again - no results returned.
Note: On this phone Safe mode is reached by press and hold volume down and power button, when safe mode icon is presented press it.
Once I rebuild my home screens I'll ask for additional assistance
