The question is: Using my Samsung Dex station, with a physical keyboard connected to it, how to I write special characters (specifically: á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ) both upper and lower case directly from the keyboard? - Example: Windows has: ALT+160 for "á", ALT+162 for "ó" and so on...
I know there's a way around it by activating on-screen keyboard or the phone's keyboard... But using 2 keyboards to write a Spanish paragraph is not that productive.
If you could please provide guidance I would be thankful. Been searching for an answer for more than 20hrs... My current work around is that I have all the above characters in both upper/lower case in a Google Keep note, when I need the character I copy and paste it. Again, not a productive use of time and space.
Thanks in advanced.
Current setup: Dex Station + Note 8 + External Wired Keyboard / Mouse + Monitor
Hey there, unfortunately I do not have an answer for you at this time. However, I am reaching out to some of our specialists in order to get an answer for you. As soon as I hear something, I will follow up with you here.
Hopefully Samsung will find a solution for this... I managed to reach out to Devs in Samsung Latin America regarding this.
One option they give is changing the physical keyboard's language to Spanish or English-latin.... This option is OK if you don't use any of the special characters in the keyboard. This would change the layout.
This is basically pressing ` and the the letter you want the accent for.
The next option, wich was provided to me by someone using Linux is using a Third party app to make a "text replacement".... Basically, you write some text and the app will automatically convert the text.
I found "texpand". It costs less than US$3. You can find it in play store.... I use, for example: !u to make ú. This works both with physical and on-screen keyboard.
Hello again, I wanted to reach out and ask if the external keyboard you are using has the extended numeric keypad area?
Thanks so much! I've followed up with our specialists so I'm hoping to have an answer for you shortly. I appreciate your patience while I research this for you.
Hey there, just wanted to check back in with you. So it looks like the external keyboard itself would not have this feature. However, we are asking some of the development teams if there is an alternative method to doing this that might help make it easier than using the on-screen keyboard and going back and forth. I'll keep you posted!
I appreciate the help... So easy doing it on Windows/Mac/Linux... Thank you again. Hope we can find a solution for this. This would benefit at least 5 others I personally know that use Dex.
@SamsungCole I'm replying because you were the only one that actually cared about this roadblock! Any news on this?? I'm even trying to reach Samsung Staff where I live (Dominican Republic), but they went 'dark' after they started helping me
Unfortunately I have not heard back, I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply myself. I sent off another follow up email yesterday though so I hope to hear something soon. I truly apologize for then length of time it is taking.
