Got my daughter's samsung a50 and I'm trying to reset it but it's not working. I did the reset from the settings and it powers down and reboots without resetting. I try the hard reset and the menu will not pop up when connected to pc using the volume + and power button held on start up. Any ideas on why this is happening. Once in awhile it says backup failed on the bottom of the screen.

Try without the PC disconnected. Hold volume+ and power on start up. And this should be done when the phone is powered off. Connecting the USB cable is only necessary if you can't bring up recovery mode the regular way.

How long long are you holding them? I believe you need to wait at least 2 seconds after the logo appears.

There might be something stopping the phone from factory resetting

Go into settings > lock screen > secure lock settings > auto factory reset , turn it on, then act like you stole the phone
