Certain contacts get individual ringtones, it used to be in the edit contact mode, but I can't find it on this phone

If it's there, it's hidden very well

@Catfran Try this:

  1. Open Contacts
  2. Click on the person you want to have a custom ringtone.
  3. Click on the Edit button.
  4. Scroll down and click on "View more"
  5. Now near the bottom you should see a "Ringtone" item. Click that and select the ringtone that you want for that person.

Tried it numerous times, there is no button for ringing, that's how I used to do it but not now, I'm so frustrated

Look for "allow storage permission" once you allow the permissions its looks normal.
