My samsung j7 isn't holding a charge it's actually losing charge even if I leave it on charge for only an hour no more then an hour and a half Do I need a new battery or charger
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing battery drainage issues. The first thing I suggest you try is to wipe the cache partition. This wipes temporarily stored data and allows the device to operate much more smoothly. To do this:
After all of this give it some time and try using the device as normal. If you're still experiencing these draining issues then I recommend you get in touch with an authorized Samsung Care location. One of these Samsung Care locations could run a diagnostic on the phone and test for drainage, etc. I also recommend you use an official Samsung charger as recommended for your device as well. Third-party chargers are capable of damaging your device.
Also, try running the device in safe mode and see if the battery drainage still occurs. If it doesn't occur it may be software or app related.

Hello @Samsung_HM7x9sL ,
I would take a small penlight, or flashlight to verify that there isn't any corrosion (greenish/whitish coating on the port end). Also due to our phones being placed in our pockets so often they sometimes build up a decent amount of pocket lint, and dust so ensure that there is no debris blocking your charger from making a full connection. Lastly just make sure to use the charger that actually came with the device, as the wire build of some aftermarket cables will ignore and burn out the charging chipset on your device causing more damage over time. If this was helpful please be sure to accept it as a solution, hope this helps! Stay healthy and safe!
