Tried to activate QR code scanning using the camera settings and the Quick Setting Tiles on the help screen. None of those worked. What no one had mentioned in all the posts I read was to check that Google Lens is activated. On my phone it was not activated. Once activated, I found the Scan QR Codes on the Phone app setting was toggled on.
