Samsung Messages App is not updated

Why won't my messages app update to the new update? I have tried everything I know. The one thing I can't seem to do is uninstall the messages app so I can install the new verssion

How you know if your version is older?

Looking at the version samsung says is out is not the same version that I have

Do you know what messages app do you have? Samsung or Google Messages?

Try Apkmirror to find a more recent version of your messages app if not available from the Galaxy Store.

I've downloaded a version from there but when I go to install, it won't install

You may have to go into settings and enable "install from unknown apps" since it is not from the Plsy Store. Go into settings and in the search bar with the hour glass type that phrase in and it should autofill and take you to the options to enable.
