I wanted to create a routine so when I am at work all notifications get turned off by do not disturb except calls. When this mode is active I still receive notifications from certain apps, when in normal Do not disturb this is not the case. People with the same problem or even a fix?

First, lets check to verify that you don't have any exceptions on.
Open the Quick Settings menu by swiping down the top of the screen
Touch and hold the Do not disturb icon
Swipe to the Allowed during Do not disturb section
