I have an app called thinkorswim and it requires me to give it storage permissions. However, by accessing the app's permissions, storage isnt a option for permissions. What do I need to do?

Newer app uses/updates are required to use Android storage picker in-app to allow a storage location. They won't work with storage without this except for the next possibility.
Older non updated apps on recent Android versions are what you're thinking of. There's caveats to this. There's also another possibility that's normally denied from Play Store.
Android has changed with storage use the past 3 years. Its now long enough that you have to see it and experience it if you didn't before. Its a lot of work for app developers sadly so some apps will still not be compatible.
