Working solution: Put some black electrical tape on the front of the remote to block the IR transmitter from turning the TV on on its own.

As I've previously suggested, putting black tape on the remote's IR transmitter fixed it for me. I've had it for quite some time now and the TV doesn't turn on by itself anymore. The TV can still be controlled no problem since the remote is also paired on Bluetooth.

Re: Samsung Q70R TV turns on by itself

JUMP TO SOLUTION

I have a Samsung 82" 82RU8000WXXY recently bought (2 weeks ago). Noticed the same problem where the TV randomly turns on a few seconds after turning off. It doesn't happen everytime but does happen every now and then. It's so new that I don't have anything connected to it (no HDMI connections, Soundbar, No Antenna, Nothing). It's only got Wifi connected and we have only used streaming apps (Netflix, Amazon)

It's obviously still in warranty and I also purchased extended warranty. I am worried and thinking what to do.... Obviously spent alot of money for the big screen and went with a big named brand so I don't have to face these crappy issues... Wasn't prepared for this.

Samsung doesn't really care. A technician just left my residence for the 3rd time attempting to fix the problem. The inconvenience of having someone in my home for a 3rd time is not what I expected from Samsung who should replace an obviously defective tv. Not happy and will contact BBB if I need too, just to leave a negative review about Samsung. Once again I have to replace and download all that I had before they reset the tv for the 3rd time. I have 2 other Samsung tv's and I will spread the word and not purchase anymore Samsung products like I did with Sony many years ago. I'll give LG a try next.

My QE49Q70R recently started turning itself on when I replaced my Sonos beam with a Sonos Arc. Reverting back to the beam makes the problem go away.  https://en.community.sonos.com/home-theater-228993/sonos-arc-wakes-up-my-samsung-qe49q70r-6843778?po...

Thanks for your response. To be honest I wasn't expecting much in the way of a response but was more hoping to see if the rest of the community had ideas and maybe contribute overall to finding a solution.

After weeks of troubleshooting, trying every fix under the sun, I confirmed that It's the smart remote. A replacement remote from Samsung worked for about a month before it started happening again. Ultimately I reset my TV with the smart remote's batteries removed, and now use the "dumb" remote. No turning itself on, and no TV asking to pair smart remote. Annoying, but ultimately works.

GhostOfJericho - thanks. That was the answer for me. So that makes at least 2 of us.

and thank all y'all for your comments.

I bought a UN58TU0007FXZA new 04/28/2020.

2 days ago this started happening to my TV.

On\off loop.  When I could finally get to the settings, (after unplugging the power, waiting a bit then plugging back in) I would have to re-register my devices.

I stripped off all devices except the comcast cable box.

I shut down wi-fi so the TV was not "online".

I went thru the Samsung recommendations...nada.

I have a warranty in-house service call for tomorrow morning.

Having gone thru all these comments, I zeroed in on the Samsung remote.

I took the batteries out of the Samsung remote.

I programmed the Comcast remote for a Samsung TV.

It works so far (it's only been about 30 minutes).

The on\off loop stopped.

I turned the TV on\off a number of times...no problems.

I can access the TV settings from the Comcast remote.

I can access Netflix etc...from the Comcast remote.

I can access all the TV's functionality from the Comcast remote.

I am not saying this the "THE" solution, but it is the solution for me.

Adios the Samsung remote. Be sure to take the batteries out.

Buy a generic remote. (or use your cable provided remote)

Program it with a Samsung TV code.

What have you got to lose?

Again, thank you all for helping me zero in on this.

If all goes well for the rest of the night, I will cancel the service call.

I do ask that if you try this, report back to this comment whether it worked or not.

Based on the response, we may be able to convince Samsung what the actual problem might be.

Thanx again.

HOLD ALL BETS !!!!!

There is a review.

"My" solution lasted about an hour....then back to on\off loop.

Sorry for giving false hope, but it sure looked promising.
