Location remains active.

Hello everyone,

Following the One UI 6 beta update, I've noticed that applications are accessing my location in the background, a behavior not observed prior to this update. Furthermore, I'm unable to disable location access for these applications.

The persistent green location icon in the Quick panel confirms ongoing location usage by applications.
Until location is turn off before it disappears in the Quick panel.

Have other users encountered this issue since the One UI 6 beta update?

As someone who's also done Android coding myself (building kernels, ROMs, etc) - you should know to look at the actual location access log for system apps which shows INSANE amounts of pinging to Google Play Services, Continuity Services, Weather, etc - all system apps. This is 100% not a visibility issue - it's an actual bug causing actual drain from active location use happening when it shouldn't be. I changed nothing in my configuration at all except updating to Beta 6 and all the sudden my battery drains like crazy, my GPS icon is constantly visible and when I look under Location Access and toggle "Show system apps" on it confirms the device is constantly pinging location services at the system level for the aforementioned system apps. This is a bug - acting like you've got advanced knowledge while refusing to even look at the system level location usage is doing nothing but confusing people. I already submitted my system logs and a proper bug report in the Beta Feedback channel. I suggest you check your system logs and do the same or at least stop misleading people if you're unwilling to do that.

Usually, a bug means the app crashes at some point because of a code error. That icon indicates the system or some apps are constantly using location services. If you install a location-using app, you'll see options to use location always, only when using the app, or never. The icon's visibility means some apps are using location services, regardless of the specific service. If you want Samsung to hide that icon, they can, but location services will still be used regardless of the icon's visibility.

Questions

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed feedback and discussion. We appreciate the technical insights shared by both users and developers in this thread.

To clarify, we are aware that several users have reported persistent background location access by system-level apps following the recent Beta update. This is not just a visibility issue—it appears to involve actual background location usage from services like Google Play Services, Weather, Continuity Services, etc., which may be contributing to increased battery consumption for some users.

Our development team is actively reviewing submitted system logs and reports to investigate whether this is unintended behavior caused by the latest build. We’re grateful to those who have already shared detailed logs through Samsung Members.

As always, we encourage users to continue reporting these types of findings with log files via the Samsung Members app. This is invaluable in helping the team diagnose and resolve these issues more effectively.

Thanks again for your engagement and collaboration as part of the Beta community.

Regards,
One UI Beta Team
