Changing individual text tones for each person

I know how to change my notification sound how do I change my text message sound I know how to change the individual text message for each person I want to have a different tone but I don't know how to change the overall text message it sounds like every other notification I'm getting

Go to settings, then sounds and vibrations, and then choose your notification sounds there.

I've already changed my notification I want to change my text message so it sounds different from all my notifications

Open Settings app

Tap Apps

Choose the texting app you use

Tap Notifications

Tap the left side of Notification Categories, as I show in screenshot

Choose sounds for any category

Thank you so much for this information, I had to do a little bit more of a couple steps to get to what I needed it to do. But I was able to accomplish changing the sound for my texts.

Go to apps pick the app then in notifications there go to notification types and sit then there

Or notif in the app settings. Go down to notifications category and each category can be set individually

If you're talking about the chime it makes while sending out a notification then there isnt a setting for that at the moment
