I am very confused, I've heard turning off RCS in Google Messages will fix this, I turned it off, switched back to Samsung Messages and clicked register chat services, but then after saying it fails to register the settings are greyed out, although sometimes it shows settings.

SOLVED, I dont know how

I don't think Samsung messages supports RCS anymore. RCS is grayed out and the galaxy store description says it no longer supports RCS

RCS only works with the version of Samsung messages on the S25.  All other versions do not have it.  The version on the S25 is a limited RCS and is not compatible with iPhone users and only 1 or 2 carriers, so you may  lose communication with them.  If you want full  RCS, supported by all the carriers and iPhone users, you will have to use Google Messages.

Turning off or uninstalling Google Messages will have no effect on the performance of Samsung Messages or its version of RCS.

Most carriers are transitioning to Google's version of RCS because it runs through Google's servers, tends to be more compatible with iOS, and doesn't require the carrier to build and maintain their own RCS infrastructure.

Unfortunately, you will likely need to transition to google messages to retain RCS Chat features going forward.

I read an article recently that said Apple and Google have agreed to a universal version of RCS that also supports end-to-end encryption. Hopefully that means we'll have more options in the near future than being forced to use one specific app on either the Apple or Android side. It's never fair to force users to use one single app to have full functionality.

Note it says Apple and *Google*, not Apple and *Samsung*.  When an entity has a proprietary system and/or it is the system carriers choose to use, yes, one is "forced" to use particular apps.  This is why those who use Google Messages with RCS have no issues with communicating with iPhone users.  The bottom line is that Google owns the technology and RCS servers, the carriers have decided to support Google's protocol, and Apple has agreed to compatibility; so, if users want to maintain their communication between Android and Apple users, they will have to use Google Messages.  Google has agreed to allow Samsung to use a limited feature version of RCS, and Samsung has decided that only their newest model phones will get to use this version.  They have also only obtained agreements with one, maybe two carriers to support it. I believe it's T-Mobile and AT&T.

This is only an American problem. Everyone else uses WhatsApp, which is essentially imessage across all platforms

While many people use WhatsApp, it is erroneous to say *everyone else* uses it.  I believe many people went to WhatsApp, once upon a time, *because* of the messaging incompatibility between iOS and Android. WhatsApp, Tele-gram, and Facebook Messenger filled in that gap.  Now, with RCS, the other apps are not necessarily needed, but the people who are ingrained to using them have no need to switch.

Nope. Only Google Messages supports RCS now. Most carrier-specific messaging apps have ceased to work, and I was told that Samsung Messages has also ceased RCS Support as of December 2024. I highly suggest migrating over to Google Messages.
