I was switching to google messages as recommended but a large portion of my messages didn't transfer to the new app. Can this be fixed?

The first time you open a new messaging app it can take several hours to a couple of days to repopulate all your messages, especially if you have a lot. If you are concerned about losing any, you can download an app called SMS backup and restore and back them all up.

Your messages didn't go anywhere. They live in a separate database on your phone. It will take time for Google Messages to re-index everything.

I switched several days ago and NONE of my previous messages have switched to Google. This is a serious issue for me bc I have lots of info I keep - like recipes and products I'm interested in. I don't want to have to download all of my Samsung messages. And I use Samsung messages because it works SO WELL! I really don't like Google messages at all!

Then download SMS backup and restore, open Samsung Messages, back up all your messages and then restore them to Google.  Your messages are also retained in your nightly automatic backup, so you can restore them from there.  There is absolutely no reason all your messages should not be in Google messages as both apps are just a shell - a vehicle for displaying, sending and receiving messages and what is in one will be in the other.

I don't understand why you would keep important information like recipes and products you are interested in in messages rather than downloading the information - especially recipes or addresses.

As stated below, this happened to me but took quite awhile for it to all transfer over. Eventually it was all there. It was like at some point the next day.

So the sms backup app worked to an extent it wasn't a perfect solution. I still couldn't transfer group messages as group messages they were divided up into individual text threads. And there were still several messages that didn't transfer at all as far as I can tell.
