Renting? Or financing?

Renting implies the user has much less control over the device. However, OS updates are pushed no matter how the phone was acquired. You can delay it to some degree, but it is eventually forced.

Either way, you didn't pay $1,200 for it. You are paying something less than that per month.

You own the phone, you don't own the software - you license it, just as you do WIndows or MacOS.

I do not believe that you got updated in the middle of using your phone.  Updates, even ones with "no warning" do not happen when the phone is in active use, just like computer updates do not happen when your computer is not idle.

You purchased a phone that included updates for it's service life. Presumably you knew that, and wanted those updates.  Even by turning auto updates off, it does not include automatic updates of the OPERATING SYSTEM.  Android 15 is a mandatory update for devices eligible to receive it, as will be all future Android versions on eligible devices.

The new UI is so bad most things take longer to do, it looks like a bad alibaba version of iPhone is, and nothing is better in any way. It's now much harder to use one handed. I hate everything about this.

I second that! Bluetooth switching from one device to another is slow, switching Wi-Fi from one band to another is slow, and there's a slight lag using the camera for a regular photos. The screen is a little jittery. My zooming during recording is not smooth still choppy as before. There's really no improvement except for extra **bleep** that they added on.

Updated from the previous One UI 6 to One UI 7. I dislike it so very very much. I felt like Samsung was trying to turn my S24 Ultra into a dumb iPhone. All of the simple lock screen icons are gone or that are in the top left hand corner. I don't need them there. I need them to show under the time. I switched from icons to cards for the lock screen and that was terrible. I wanted to keep the "at a glance" look to my phone. Look down, see icons, decide to respond or not. I do not want my details shown. The update honestly takes up too much room on the lock screen to do absolutely nothing. It actually does less. Samsung also removed the Bluetooth status from the top right hand corner. I should be able to see it when on my phone. Now I have to go two swipes to see if it is on or off. Its no longer a quick launch setting or even in my top 6. As for the icons in the top left hand corner, why only 3 icons? It can fit 7.

The battery life is garbage too. I use to get 3.5 to 4.2 days between charges. I can pusb 5 days by being conservative. Now its 2.3 days. Maybe 2.5 days. My usage hasn't changed. My phone is not even a year old. My S9 Plus (yes, I still have it) drains slightly faster, but not by much. The S9 Plus is a 7 year old phone.

I feel like One UI 7 is just a **bleep** attempt to look more like Apple. We don't want anything of that. Keep our experience to an Android Experience. There is a reason why most of us are on Android and why Samsung is a top phone company: IT ISN'T A **bleep** APPLE!!!

Fix this mess. At this moment, my Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is much more enjoyable than S24 Ultra and that is a shame...

Cache cleared a week ago. With the exception of this app (Members), battery still drains more than what I'm used to. This is with all of the energy saving settings turned on, (dim screen, performance, power saving). Not running Gemini or Galaxy AI and not planning too. Samsung needs an update to fix this cluster. I think the next update should allow users to keep a look and interface of their choosing, like one ui 6 and previous, while keeping AI off of the phones until the users wish to use it. They should be able to download it separately.
