As so many others have said, this update is absolutely terrible, my weather app is now in tiny text, the notifications at the top and the battery charge icon are ugly as sin.  Please please revert the looks back to before this latest update.

Having read many of the horror stories about OUI7, and having gotten the annoying notification that it's coming, I've turned off all connections to the Internet on my phone to do more research into the effects before allowing the update to proceed.

For the record, I don't typically have wifi or data on since I'm retired, usually at home and only use my computer to talk to the world.  I have a cell phone mostly for when I'm out, and even then, I don't usually have wifi or data turned on.  I was raised when phones were tethered  to or mounted on walls (and during an era when some still had cranks to ring the operator for a connection to somewhere else instead of being able to dial), so the portability of it is still something of a novelty.

The issues I've read about other Samsung have been overheating, battery drain, poor connectivity speeds/experiences after the installation, etc.  And it seems that's being reported for the high end of the Samsung phone experience.  For the low-end, it's been mostly crickets.  That's likely because the update is always pushed to the fancy phones first (which is yet another reason why I don't do high-end phones) and presumably get fixed after the bleeding edgers have exsanguinated sufficiently for Samsung  track down problems and fix them.

So there's been a dearth of posts about the lower end Samsung phone experience with OUI7, which hopefully this thread will address.

Unlike most modern day phone users, I can afford to not use wifi or data on my phone almost indefinitely to avoid getting the update, which is the current plan. Obviously, it's not optimal.

What I'd like this thread to be about is a collection of the general experiences with OUI7 on the A53 for those who have upgraded,  what issues were encountered, what was tried to fix the issues and what actually worked to fix it.

For us non-flagship users, it's mostly self-help from Samsung, so this is the A53's user's way of focusing on what, if any, issues arise and what, if any, fixes work on them.  If you could mention your phone model (Mine's an A53 5G), that would be even more helpful as a way to compare any differences in the user experience from this upgrade.

I hope you'll play along.

Understand that there are millions of Galaxy users and for millions of users, the update either went flawlessly or those people know how to correct errors that may occur.  The people who find their way here to express their outrage, just want to express their outrage. Very few genuine issues on workability.  Most are complaining about the look being different that what they are used to.  Others consider themselves "power users" whose expectations were too high in having some processes automated.  The reason you are hearing the "horror" stories from the users with the higher end phones are because they are the people who paid the most money for their phones and have higher than normal expectations (I think some expect the devices to cook and feed them breakfast).  Users with the work-a-day phones tend to only come here if they really have a problem, such as the phone not working or questions  on how to use a new feature,  or why their phone didn't get certain features with the update.  Also, the lower end phones don't get many of the new features that the high end get, such as AI (most of us don't want that garbage anyway), so the update is less likely to cause complications. Compared to the millions of users, the complainants on this forum are a drop in the bucket.  I have an A54 and my update when without a hitch and, since I already knew there were things that can be put back in place, I put them back. I was prepared for the worst, but didn't have any issues at all.

Bluetooth status icon needs to come back to the home screen. I know it's in the quick view if you swipe down, but there should be a way to tell at a glance if a device disconnected properly.

Bring back option to show lock screen icon for new messages in the middle, not just at the top left. Not a card view, just icon.

This was a Google decision for the Android update. Send your feedback through official channels. This is a peer to peer user help forum. No one here has the power to fix it. If you connected devices are working as they should, there is no need to continuously show the BT indicator.

If you pull down the quick panel, those indicators show in the secondary status bar. This was a Google decision not Samsung. Send your feedback through official channels. This is a peer to peer forum. No one here has the power to pit them back.

I currently have a Samsung AOS3 that I've been quite happy with, for some time. Plus, I admit, in my checkered, mis-spent youth to previously eganging in myriad long-term, relationships with alternate and multiple Samsung devices for many a year and with nary a concern.  However, today, I, unwittingly installed that insidiously deceptive piece of evil-incarnate, which is innocently, though certainly not melifulously named, UI7, (or is it iu7?) update on my phone. HATE IT!  LOATHE  IT!! It exists beyond the bounds of my vocabularic ability to adequately express my intrinsic displeasure with the schizophrenic, roiling nature of this tortuous update!!!  (I generally use neither all caps, nor superfluous exclamation points, but this update patently, and with haste and clarity of purpose aforethought, necessitates both - in abundance - and far beyond my natural tendencies toward grammitic distinction and punctuational precision).  Being a neophyte, bordering on luddite - even on my good days - anywhere phone de/re-programming is waranted, I passionetely and profusely plead for any and all assistance, including those ideas falling only moderately short of exorcism, animal sacrifice or calling upon the powers of Beellezub, in uninstalling this monstrous, insidious abomination from my poor, naive, unsuspecting and defenseless phone and return to my beloved, prequel OS?  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

You don't generally use all caps or "superfluous" exclamation points?  You certainly do use a lot of superfluous words, trying to sound smart.  Updates happen.  Samsung and Google have the absolute right to change their software in any manner they want.  It's in the TOS you agreed to when you put your phone in service. You own your phone, but Google/Samsung own the software.  Being technologically illiterate in the 21st century is inexcusable.  By now, the majority of people were born into this technology age and everyone else has lived with it long enough to learn how things work. It's nothing to be proud of.

There is quite a lot not to like about the update, especially when you are used to certain features behaving a certain way or just used to doing things a certain way. I just don't see a reason for the absolute meltdowns people are having over it.

You don't like the icons? Change them with an icon pack. It seems the people most affected by the icon/screen changes were those without a theme or icon pack already applied. If their wallpaper was gone, it was likely a wallpaper no longer available - choose another one.

Don't like the separation of the notification and quick panels? Put them back together.

Don't like that some of the indicator icons no longer show? Unfortunately, at the moment there is no fix for that. Perhaps Good Lock will update Quick Star. You can still see your BT indicator and alarm indicator by pulling down the top of the screen. Don't like the new battery indicator? Turn it off and find a widget that will give you the battery status at a glance.

Really hate that the notification indicators are limited to three icons? There are many ways to work around that and have your really important notifications be available at a glance.

Don't like that your location is being accessed all the time? Guess what? It always was, now you are just being informed of it. If you don't like the location indicator always showing on the status bar, turn it off. You will still see the green location indicator when you pull down the quick panel notifying you that the location services are in use, much the same way you get the green indicator when the camera or mic is in use. The location services uses very minimal battery, since it only pings momentarily when in use. I challenge you to find location services in your battery use statistics. Not all the apps that use notification services ping at the same time, and apps that haver permission to use location all the time, do not continuously ping.

Battery drain? Check your battery usage statistics and see which apps are the culprits and then either put them to sleep or change the battery optimization settings for those apps. Check to make sure that some apps haven't "woken up" after the update that you had previously put to sleep.

Don't like anything about the update? Change brands. See how you like another manufacturer. Do not forget that this is, before anything, an Android update, so all Android phones running the new version will look much the same way, without the customization options that Samsung's UI offers.
