Agree! I have an A53. Completely unstable wi-fi connection, now barely connects to the internet. Went through all troubleshooting steps with a tech. Then my text messages turned green. Ran a diagnostics check, all good. Right. Performed a strength test. I have a weak connection to the router/modem, where this happened after the update. Tech is gaslighting us. May have to find something other than Samsung I guess

Yeah I lack insight into their reasoning,  But I believe it would be best to place it in the center of the screen, as that is the position where my thumb typically lands. Additionally, this could potentially be the initial of many future changes to come.

A53 5g UI7 Upgrade

I've used an A53 5g phone now for over 2 years and until now a great phone. On Friday 13th June I was upgraded to UI7 (not by choice).  UI7 is atrocious. This doesn't appear to have been properly tested, so I don't understand how this was ever released. Much of the change to what is presented certainly doesn't improve the use of the phone, unfortunately the reverse. Appears to be change for the sake of change without adding value. I've documented some my findings below and I'm sure there are more to be discovered.

Some findings:

When device is locked, on the front screen:

Time Not Displayed Properly: time is displayed as four huge black numbers, 2 at the top, 2 below, and the date is     barely visible.

Symbols At Top Right Hand Corner:
WIFI Calling: Used to have a small phone symbol here and on the first app screen. This was helpful to let you know that the phone app would use WIFI and not the mobile network.
Battery Remaining Charge: Previously a clear percentage e.g. 69%. Now a symbol, black background and white number barely visible

Entering Security Details (e.g. PIN): you have to be careful how you swipe otherwise you are taken into settings without having entered PIN; not exactly secure.

Many of the app icons have changed, look awful, and the change adds no value.

I've spent about 2 hours talking to Samsung Tech Support and understand that this release cannot be "backed out/rolled back" due to security updates being bundled with this release.

I'd suggest the following to Samsung

  1. Put together an interim release either reverting to the previous release or providing corrections (without  security updates)
  2. Future releases: bundle security updates/patches and user interface updates into separate releases.

Summary: Great phone wasted with a dreadful user interface. I wouldn't buy a phone like this now.

^You can change the clock to any style you want.

^Yes, most of the status bar symbols have been eliminated from the main status bar, but they are still active if you pull down the quick panel and need to see them.  Everyone agrees the battery pill was a mistake.  The status bar changes were mandated by Google.  This was, after all, an Android system update.

^I see no difference in password/pin entry.  If you swipe down from the top of the screen, one is able to utilize certain controls without having to unlock the phone.  This has always been true, it is not new to Android 15/OneUI7.  Most require unlocking the phone to use.

^App icons can be changed to suit your liking.  You can download and apply icon packs (many are free), you can even download the classic Android icon pack.  You can download Good Lock/Theme Park and create your own icons.  Download Good Lock anyway, along with Home Up and Quick Star.  This app suite is Samsung's official customization app and will give you more control over the look and performance of your phone.

Bottom line: your phone is still very customizable.  Here is a list of things that can be changed back.

I have been a Samsung user since the Note 3. I used to love the entire experience. Now I have to call Samsung Apple 2.0. These devices have gotten extremely expensive and for what? We get extremely similar hardware to all of the other device options out there and the software experience has become an iterative buggy mess. Samsung doesn't know what it wants to be anymore and they don't even pretend to care about their users. You get generic support, send your device in, get told it's all your fault and charged almost the cost of a new device. If you refuse you run the risk of your device getting sent back half way disassembled. Notifications don't always come in, Google services either work or they don't and no consistency or fix can be found. I need to know when important emails come in. You're so focused on beating your competitors you're forgetting why you're even competing. You promise long device upkeep and software updates so you can take forever to develop software updates. If you promise 7 years of updates but updates take 3 to 4 years to develop then you don't have to give the customer more software updates. You keep updating the looks and changing the ui that you aren't fixing things that have been broken since One ui 4. The auto correct on the keyboard only works most of the time. For example in this very post instead of typing take it wants to input treasure. If you graphed how many times I've used the word treasure over all the years I've used Samsung Keyboard I bet it would be less than 50 times. Back from the note 3 I remind you. Combined with a lack of innovation and communication the decision to put ads into the UI is the straw that broke the camels back. I've been very faithful to you for over a decade Samsung. You repay that with more greed. A lot of what you're doing now are things that apple did and people hated. I'm tired of the greed. I'm tired of the bugs. I'm tired of sending my brand new devices in for warranty repairs. I'm tired of Samsung. Therefore I must say goodbye. I hope all of these practices are worth it.

I understand you're frustration, but I'm a realist and I have some advice for you. There is no perfect device, no perfect car, no perfect television set, no perfect couch, no perfect refrigerator, truly, there is no perfect anything. So, your search for the perfect phone is going to lead you to find that every phone manufacturer has its little quirks and idiosyncrasies that many people don't like. So, you either have to accept the fact that it's going to change and you'll have to change with it, or, you will have to go to another system and relearn everything. I hope you find some solace in what your searching for, because I don't think you're ever going to achieve it.

You're correct that every phone manufacturer has its quirks. My desire to leave Samsung has less to do with the devices and more to do with the company itself. They have consistently made decisions that progressively make all of their devices collectively worse. Leaving a company because you're searching for the perfect device, probably won't work well. Leaving a company because you're noticing a trend you don't agree with or want to support, understandable. If Samsung wants to copy Apple's playbook by trying to coerce people to stay with them by soft locking them into the ecosystem and making it difficult to leave, I want no part of it. If they are going to continue to make their devices more expensive and doing more iterative updates that play it safe I want no part of it. If they are going to blame every device issue on the end users instead of realizing there is a problem and just try to push people into buying another new device, I want no part of it. If they want to be so greedy that they intend to bake ads into the user interface, I want no part of it. Sure, the devices are part of why I'm leaving, but the major part of it is Samsung themselves. This feeling has been growing for years, I've finally been pushed too far by their corporate greed.

I don't have your history with Samsung, but I really don't like the S-24 FE phone I bought either. It's a nightmare.
