Long press on the number you want, 1 is already preset to pull up you voice mail, then you'll receive prompts to set up the speed dial feature to whatever contact you want. After doing so you can hold the number to directly call the assigned person, or you can press it, and the person assigned name will show. From that point you'll be able to do other things like message or video call them.
It's an awesome feature and I've been using it since the feature phone days. You can also select a contact by using the dial pad.. It's alphanumeric, so you can pull up names by pressing the corresponding number with the letter you desire. You'll see contacts populate, and you can select from that field. Enjoy
