Discontinuing Samsung messenger is the wrong move. Themes and fonts that people paid for are not accessible through Google messages. But on top of that despite android being google owned a lot of people do not want google ingrained in everything we do. I deleted my personal google account a few years ago and use a dupe which you shouldn't need to do to use certain features, the only google apps I use are the play store and maps. I much prefer Samsung messages and if I wanted google everything I would've bought a pixel. I know there are other app choices but why is a third party needed for a basic cellphone function

Samsung Apps and ServicesYou have it a little backward. Only T-Mobile and AT&T supported Samsung's RCS messaging and only in *some* S24s and in the S25. It's not the fact that Google wants to control everything (they likely do - it's like Highlander - in the end, there can be only one), but that the carriers universally decided they would only support Google because they did not have to build their own servers to handle the load.

Samsung Apps and ServicesThe last interaction with any message will put it at the top of the list under anything you may have pinned. New messages are usually the last interaction and would appear at the top. New, unread messages are easily identifiable anyway, as they not only appear in bold type, they have a little number to the right of them indicating how many new texts are in a chat. You can also search for unread messages, there's actually a search category for it.

Samsung Apps and ServicesI've only used Samsung phones over 30 yrs, because your messages saved my lawsuit evidence. My phone crashed, & AT&T only said sorry, & Google had no customer service. Samsung told me to type in something associated with someone, & they all restored. I don't like iphones, so I stick with my androids from Samsung. YOUR MESSAGING, IS THE REASON I STICK WITH SAMSUNG! Please don't push us away? If forced to use generic service, no need for my 10 expensive phones. Google has same service for cheap phones.
