Discontinuing Samsung messenger is the wrong move. Themes and fonts that people paid for are not accessible through Google messages. But on top of that despite android being google owned a lot of people do not want google ingrained in everything we do. I deleted my personal google account a few years ago and use a dupe which you shouldn't need to do to use certain features, the only google apps I use are the play store and maps. I much prefer Samsung messages and if I wanted google everything I would've bought a pixel. I know there are other app choices but why is a third party needed for a basic cellphone function

I feel like this is a crazy suggestion, but I am upset about losing access to Samsung Messages. I have been using the app since I got my first smartphone in 2017 and I don't understand why we are going to be blocked from using it, even on older hardware we already paid for. I am used to the interface, I know where everything is, and it is really easy to keep everything organized on my phone. I have 5 Samsung phones, a Samsung Galaxy J7, Galaxy Note 10 Plus, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy XCover Pro, and a Galaxy S24 Ultra. All of the phones got this notice except for the J7 from 2017! I don't want Google tracking me any more than they already do and I honestly like Samsung Messages a lot more.

I feel like this could set a dangerous precedent where Samsung can just decide they don't want you to have an app on your phone anymore. You have a three year old smartphone? How about we disable the Camera app so you can't take pictures anymore? Let's take away the Calculator app to make you switch to our newest model. I feel like it's crazy but if they can take away Samsung Messages, they can also take away any other app they want, even on older phones you already paid for. I paid for most of these phones years ago already and they are losing features I paid for!

Do research, this is not Samsung doing it. Couple years ago Samsung said that they stopping message development ( there was no major update since) and they will remove app from phone. All this because carriers decided to stop supporting rcs through their own servers. Google use it's own servers, and i believe Apple uses Google servers as well.

I am upset over the messages change! It is a downgrade with Google and third party apps not fully supporting the system. This is one of the worst decisions Samsung has made. No categories, no contacts, ugly looking and clunky.

Simply a less for more decision.

Or no RCS as both AT&T and Verizon are abandoning their proprietary versions of RCS and are urging the customers to adopt Google Messages.

What you don't seem to understand is that Samsung (or any manufacturer/app developer) can discontinue apps any time they decide to. Nowhere in the terms of service does it say that you are entitled to all apps in perpetuity. If one of your many devices is still running Android 11, that device will not be affected.

Well said.

We own the hardware. Samsung owns the software.

It clearly says in the EULA that Samsung can do whatever they want with software and that users agree to this by using their products and services.

Every phone manufacturer puts this in their EULA.

100% true. Implying that users should switch to Google Messages only is the problem. They have announced discontinuation of services in past but not pushing or only preloading the said alternative app on devices. If they wanted to make it fair, announce that the app will be discontinued and leave it to users to decide if Google Messages is what they need.

Some users will change to other apps but others who may not know will switch to Google Messages because that is the only option they were given, and not by choice.
