Discontinuing Samsung messenger is the wrong move. Themes and fonts that people paid for are not accessible through Google messages. But on top of that despite android being google owned a lot of people do not want google ingrained in everything we do. I deleted my personal google account a few years ago and use a dupe which you shouldn't need to do to use certain features, the only google apps I use are the play store and maps. I much prefer Samsung messages and if I wanted google everything I would've bought a pixel. I know there are other app choices but why is a third party needed for a basic cellphone function

Samsung Apps and ServicesI understand the frustration of having to switch from an app that you have become accustomed to. It sucks. I'm not trying to start some online flame war. Some of the rants on this thread have been absolutely ridiculous. Samsung Messages has some nice features, some of which it is rumored that Google Messages will be incorporating soon.
I've used Google Messages for many years. Every now and then, especially when I switch phones, I give Samsung Messages a try. Every time, I immediately go back to Google. Here are some of the features that bring me back to Google Messages:
- RCS Support. Google Messages was one of the first to support RCS and continue to improve support for it.
- Google Messages is tied to my Google account. While some may look at this as a negative, it has been a big plus for me. I have never lost a message, except for when originally switching from Samsung messages to Google. Since then, when I switch, I install Google Messages, log into my Google account, and within a few minutes, all of my messages are on my new phone.
- Google Messages is seamless on my Samsung phone, tablet, and watch. I have never had an issue getting messages on whatever device I am using at the time.
- Google Messages for Web. I have a job where I sit in front of a computer for 9-10 hours a day. It is so nice to be able to open a browser tab, log into my account and be able to text/message on my computer, with my keyboard. I can even set up my computer to provide notifications, if I want. There's also an app I can download onto my laptop to use it if I wanted to.
Bottom line is Samsung is primarily a hardware company. They make some really good hardware and are consistently on the front lines of hardware development. That is what brings me back to Samsung year after year. Its why I have a Samsung phone, tablet, watch and earbuds. Its why I bought Samsung phones for my kids and finally convinced my wife to switch to Samsung phones. While they do have some decent apps, software is not their primary revenue stream.
Google, on the other hand, is primarily a software company (technically, they are a data company, but you know what I mean). Sure, the Pixel line is getting better, but when Google first introduced hardware, it was terrible. However, we love Android (a Google product) for its many features, customization ability, innovation, etc. that attracted more people all over the world to adopt versus other options. I'm not a fan of Google's data collection policies, but these days EVERYONE is collecting data on its users, even Samsung.
As others have mentioned, there are other options on the app market. If you absolutely cannot stomach Google, feel free to try them. I don't see Samsung reversing course on this decision. In fact, I can foresee that Samsung will probably look to integrate apps from other developers in its future phones. The mobile space is changing, as are many industries. AI, economic and other factors are forcing companies to streamline and shift focus.
Overall, I think this will be a good partnership between the best hardware and best software companies in this mobile space. Samsung's userbase and its size will pressure and influence Google's development and we'll have a much better product in the end.

Samsung Apps and Services- If I wanted to change my messages to Google I would've done it ,after an update I tried it one time and I almost lost my mind it isn't user friendly and if I buy something I want the options I choose, stop trying to follow what everyone else is doing and listen to your customers. No Google messages on July 6 you see that we don't want it so you have time to fix it right now .

Samsung Apps and ServicesIn my opinion, Google Messages is better than Samsung Messages. No one is forcing us to use Google Messages, the App Store has plenty of options for text messaging to download.

Samsung Apps and ServicesYou are not required to switch to Google Messages if you don't want to, you can use any other messaging app you choose. You just won't have Samsung Messages after July 6.
I swear, reading comprehension is atrocious among the complainers. Nowhere in the termination of the app notification does it says you are REQUIRED to use Google Messages, only encouraged to do so and that going forward it would be the default messaging app on (all) Android phones. One is *always* free to choose another app. It is on required to use Google messaging if you want to utilize RCS, as Google's RCS is the only game in town. If you don't care about that, there are at least 10 other messaging apps in the Play store. Choose one.
