Samsung DeX is great for productivity, but it’s still limited to an Android-based experience. I’d love to see Samsung introduce a new, more powerful PC-grade mode that allows users to leverage their Galaxy device as a full computer alternative, including for gaming.

How This Could Turn an Old Laptop into a More Powerful One

Many people have old, slow laptops that struggle to run modern applications. With this new "Pro Mode", users could connect their Galaxy phone to an older laptop and:

• Use the phone's powerful Snapdragon processor to handle all computing tasks.

• Use the laptop's screen, keyboard, and touchpad for input, making it feel like a normal PC.

• Run Windows, Linux, or even Android apps using the phone's power, instead of being limited by old laptop hardware.

• Stream PC games from the phone to the laptop, eliminating lag from weak laptop GPUs.

Key Features This "Pro Mode" Could Have:

• Native Windows or Linux Support

• Instead of just Android apps, allow the phone to boot into Windows-on-ARM or a lightweight Linux environment when connected to a monitor or laptop.

• This would let users install and run PC software natively, rather than being limited to mobile apps.

• PC-Level Game Streaming and Processing

• A mode where the phone acts as a gaming hub for a connected laptop, processing games locally and streaming the output to the laptop screen.

• Utilizing full GPU power would make this viable for high-performance gaming.

• Could support USB-C to HDMI 2.1 for high-refresh-rate gaming.

• Better External Hardware Support

• Full compatibility with external GPUs (eGPUs) via USB-C for enhanced gaming and creative workloads.

• Improved driver support for PC peripherals (e.g., gaming mice, controllers, capture cards).

• Optimized Multi-Device Integration

• A way to connect the phone to a laptop and use the phone’s processor to enhance laptop performance.

• Samsung Flow already does screen mirroring, but this should be a true performance offload feature that lets the phone act as an additional processing unit for the laptop.

Why This Would Be a Game-Changer

With Pro Mode, an old laptop wouldn’t need expensive upgrades—your Galaxy phone would be the CPU and GPU, while the laptop remains the control interface and operating system environment. This could:

• Extend the life of old laptops.

• Allow seamless switching between mobile and desktop experiences.

• Make high-end gaming and productivity accessible without needing a gaming PC.

Given Samsung’s partnership with Microsoft and Qualcomm, now would be the perfect time to develop this (of course, it doesn't have to be called "Pro Mode". I just didn't know what to call it)! Would love to hear if this is something the Samsung team would consider in future One UI updates.

This would be amazing. I use dex everyday for work and would say take my money if a phone could do this.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing such a visionary and well-structured suggestion!

Your idea for a “Pro Mode” that extends Samsung DeX into a full PC-grade computing environment is both ambitious and exciting. Leveraging the powerful Snapdragon processors in Galaxy devices to breathe new life into aging laptops — while also enabling advanced gaming and multi-device performance — could be a major leap forward in mobile productivity.

We especially appreciate the thoughtful breakdown of key features like native OS support, GPU offloading, and true system-level integration with peripherals. As Samsung continues to innovate around the Galaxy ecosystem and device continuity, this kind of feedback helps shape what’s next.

Your concept will be shared with the appropriate team for further review. Thanks again for your detailed insight — it’s always inspiring to hear from users who are thinking ahead of the curve!

Regards,
