I asked Bixby to look at my calendar and tell me when I had my last appointment and I specifically stated the name of the appointment as it appears on my calendar. Instead, Bixby conducted a Google search.

I asked Gemini to do the same, and not only did it tell me about my very last appointment, it also told me the dates of all my previous appointments.

I expected the new Bixby to be able to do this.

Situations like this make it difficult to justify using Bixby for anything other than setting reminders.

I was one of the initial beta testers for Bixby when it first arrived in 2017 and at the time it was quite useful, but Google Assistant and now Gemini are so significantly more advanced that my Bixby usage has been reduced to only setting reminders or adjusting on device settings like turning on or off the mobile hotspot.

Bixby is fantastic for controlling on-device settings. I have found that the majority of tech reviewers merely write it off because they haven't spent time finding out what it's good at. Then we have folks who parrot those ignorant points and suggest that Bixby is useless, and that is false.

The purpose of being a beta tester is to test the new features and provide Samsung with feedback so they can improve. So, that is what I'm doing.

For anything besides controlling on-device settings/sending texts/initiating phone calls, Bixby does struggle.

The new Bixby to be unveiled alongside the official One UI 7 will reportedly be powered by Gemini and Samsung Gauss LLMs.

So there should be significant improvement in the UX with the official One UI 7 launch.

I am hoping that Bixby's upcoming AI refresh with the S25 series will bring some much-needed functionality.

I have always preferred the anesthetic of Bixby, and the close integration with Samsung's apps is something Google Assistant just can't do.

Ah, I thought we were testing the new Bixby in the beta!

You are right! Bixby should be deeply integrated with all Samsung apps, not just settings.

Hello,

We understand your frustration when Bixby didnā€™t meet your expectations in retrieving calendar information, especially when other assistants like Gemini provided a more comprehensive response. Your input is invaluable as it helps us identify areas where Bixby can improve to better serve users like you.

Our team is continuously working to enhance Bixbyā€™s capabilities, including more advanced and intuitive integration with apps like Calendar. Your specific example highlights an area where we can focus on improving contextual understanding and functionality. Feedback like yours is instrumental in shaping the evolution of Bixby.

In the meantime, you might want to:

  1. Ensure Calendar Permissions: Check that Bixby has full access to your calendar under Settings > Apps > Bixby > Permissions.
  2. Use Precise Commands: Sometimes, rephrasing commands (e.g., ā€œShow my last calendar appointmentā€ instead of naming the event) can yield better results.

We sincerely appreciate your long-term support as a Bixby beta tester since 2017. We recognize the growing competition in the AI assistant space and are committed to making Bixby a tool youā€™ll enjoy using for more than reminders and device settings.

Please continue to share your experiences and suggestions with us. Your feedback ensures that we focus on what truly matters to our users.

Thank you again for being part of the Samsung community and for taking the time to help us improve.

Regards,

One UI Beta Team
