Personally, I would like the return of edge lighting for ALL types of notifications, including detailed ones!
With such a gorgeous curved screen (I do miss the big curve of the Note 8, I'm not a fan of this whole 'flat screen' "movement"), it's a shame that edge lighting is only available with the brief notification style.

I'm pretty sure edge lighting was always restricted to the little pop-up when you had it on. If you didn't have the app selected it would just send a normal detailed notification.
