I'm not sure if I'm not doing something right, I get that the DIY is meant to be for customization, but why on earth are the "snap" placements so off? It makes no sense to me. The reason why I want to use it is because it's the only way I can have a widget truly at the bottom of the screen (search)

Also, if it's not a huge bother could you also include the ability to remove the page indicator entirely instead of just hiding it so we can truly have a blank space to work with?

Yeah, it's very annoying, and that's why I don't use it. They should make a grid with very little spacing to make it easy to place icons.

If you turn off page indictator it should get you pretty close I turned off favorites and page indicator and just placed apps I needed instead
