Making the app drawer vertical would really help with reachability/usability. Currently if there's an app I want to open on the top row I have to shimmy my 23 ultra around to open it. Quite frustrating

I agree! I just heard that in the new home-up update, the vertical scrolling function has been removed, but still exists in the old, so if you enjoy this function, do not update home up when done the beta program.
