Updating your television via USB?

Updating your television can be frustrating. Here are a few steps to help with downloading the firmware from the Samsung website to your USB drive. To begin this process you will need three things:

  1. A USB Flash Drive with the storage capacity large enough for the firmware file.
  2. A computer with internet connection
  3. A compressed file extraction program.

To download the firmware for your TV, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Samsung Download Center for your model. (For example http://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/4k-suhd-tvs/65-class-ks9800-9-series-curved-4... and selecting SUPPORT and SEE ALL SUPPORT)
  2. After searching for your model number, locate the firmware download for your TV, and then select the .exe file in the firmware section. (This will be under PRODUCT INFO and DOWNLOADS)
  3. After clicking on the .exe file you may see a security warning similar to the image below. Click "Save".
  4. Select the folder you would like to save the file to. We recommend the Desktop. Then click "Save"
  5. The file will download. When finished, locate the file on your Desktop and double-click the file to "Run".
  6. WinZip or a similar compressed file extraction program will open, Click "Browse..." and select the folder you would like the firmware saved to. Again we recommend the Desktop.
  7. WinZip will extract the files. The number of files will depend on the firmware. Click "Ok" and close WinZip.
  8. You will now have a folder(s) in your selected save location (the Desktop). Copy or move that folder(s) to your USB flash drive.

Important:

  • The number of folders and the name of the folder(s) will depend on your TVs firmware version.
  • When you copy or move the folder(s) to your USB flash drive do not place it in a sub folder. If it is in a sub folder the TV will not be able to find the firmware.

Now that you have the firmware downloaded and moved to your USB flash drive, you are ready to use the USB to update the firmware on your TV.

**In some cases there will be no firmware listed and the website will show: “Unfortunately, this information isn't currently available for this product.” This is normal. This means the website cannot find any firmware assigned to the model so the information is not available. **

Re: Updating your television via USB?

Thank you very much for outlining the steps for firmware updates via USB. I had been looking for these instructions.

Firmware update 1165 is now available for my KU6300. I have not yet initiated the upgrade on my TV. The only glitches I have noticed are: (1) after the last auto upgrade the numeric volume levels for my Samsung sound bar no longer appear on the TV screen (when using the internal speakers, the numeric volume levels still appear); and (2) turning the TV on or off does not power on or off my Cisco cable box (this issue existed prior to the last auto upgrade).

I am hesitant to initiate firmware update 1165 until I see postings confirming successful upgrades without new problems and postings reporting either or both of the issues mentioned above have been fixed. I hope that subscribers will report their results good or bad. I recognize the presumptiousness of this request when I do not leap first.

Very helpful.

Can you share with us what is in each firmware release so we can have an idea of what has changed?

Its the same everytime

Browser stability

app friendlyness   etc....they never will divulge exactly what is in the update for some reason.

Having the option to update by USB is fine, but you shouldnt have to when the TV is connected via wifi...right?

Right, assuming you have robust wifi.

Re: Updating your television via USB?

This was a big help. Just downloaded 1165 for KS8 series and it worked like a charm...

Thanks....

Re: Updating your television via USB?

Updated my KU7000 with 1165.0 via USB Stick. So far, everything appears to be working fine. The issue with the SmartRemote turning on the cable box, but not turning it off still remains.

Same canned release notes:

Improved usability

1. Improved browser performance

2. Improved app performance

3. Improved stability

4. Improved usability of input devices (Canned for all releases)

How long should it take to download to the computer?

Re: Updating your television via USB?

Hi,

My 55KS8000 FA01 was updated to 1154 and works perfectly and I stopped the set from updating thereafter, by blocking it on my router, as the auto update to off didn't work on my JS406500  set and was "magically" updated, so I don't trust the auto update off setting anymore.

My new AA02 came with 1168 and I have issues with:

1. Any SD content (horrible scaling, 720P looks like I'm looking at content through running water, with artifacting/jaggies and the settings are the same on the FA01, which scales really well)

2. Very poor color reproduction when I use DLNA, playing videos/photos streamed to the set.

Is there a way I can install 1154 on my AA02 to see if 1168 is the issue or if it's an issue with the AA02 in general? I want to keep the new set, but can't, because these two issues are deal breakers.

Thanks,

Alex
