Unfortunately, if the device is locked and you don’t have the password, there’s no official way to access or retrieve data before a factory reset. You can try checking Find My Mobile (Samsung account) — if enabled, it might let you unlock it remotely.

So I assume you don't have it backed up to the cloud or external storage?

As @thismarkjohnson stated above, if you are not able to use Find My Mobile, you will have to factory reset your device.

If it was easy to retrieve data from a locked device, then anyone who steals/finds it can access it, and an owner should know their password since they would have to enter it multiple times a day if they don't have a fingerprint or extended unlock enabled. You will have to rely on whatever gets restored after a reset, as both Google backup services and Samsung backup services are automatic. Only personal data won't be restored. Unless you backed it up elsewhere. If you don't make at least a monthly backup, I guess your stuff is just not that important to you.

I just don't understand how this happens to people. It's not like you only have to enter a pin/password once in a while, every day you have to enter a pin at least a couple of times a day. Every time you reboot you have to enter a pin!

I can perhaps understand with tablets if it's not their main device, but why on earth would they not use the same password as their phone to avoid this scenario? I don't even understand how if their data is so important, they don't back it up.

I'm thinking that if you plug it into your computer you'll see the data take the data and factory reset to get it to the new phone or save it
