Higher screen resolution does not offer more screen space

I've looked at Samsung's very high resolution tablets for running desktop-based apps in a browser. The problem is that the higher resolution does not really give me greater screen area in the sense that I have a taller/wider area in which to run the desktop app. It's like the browser scales up all fonts, areas of browser "chrome," etc. in order to take up the space. So the vertical height in the viewport of the browser is really only 600 pixels or something, no matter what the tablet's screen resolution is. Is there a way to change this?

Dex has a max resolution of 1080 even though my tab s7 is a higher resolution. Doesn't matter if I'm using external display or just on the device. I heard there was an update that allowed 4k dex on New New models, but that might not be true

Samsung Dex is a mode in newer galaxy devices and all the note phones that gives you a desktop experience. Try plugging a USB c to HDMI adapter and connecting to a monitor 🙂

Ah, ok. That is not of interest to me. I need more screen real estate when using the device itself,  not some external monitor. Thanks, though.

You can change the screen dp in developer settings, increasing it will increase the minimum "width" of your screen, increasing the amount of content visible on the tablet.
Settings>about phone>software information>tap build number 7 times to enable dev mode.
Settings>developer options>scroll to the near bottom>minimum width

Thanks. I need to test if that setting stays when you drop out of dev mode. Just turned off the tablet, so I'll check that later. Thanks.

It should, however it may reset after a reboot
