I don't if know the tablet settings are the same as the phone, but here is the way to do it on the phone. Should be similar on the tablet.
Open the device settings. Go to security & privacy/more security settings/passwords, passkeys and autofill. Tap that and you will see a list of autofill apps. Make sure Google is on. Tap the settings gear next to the preferred service and then select Google from the list as your preference. Google will now be the default for saving and retrieving passwords.
