Samsung Gallery Always Shows Album Red Notification Dot With Videos In Album

Hello,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ - One UI 6.1 - Samsung Gallery 15.5.02.4

I noticed an issue, but it's not always present for every Album. Some albums, if there are short photo-videos 3 seconds in lenght taken with an iPad, I'm not sure if it matters they are off of an iPad. Some of them are .MOV and .MP4 files.

When I first create the album and then copy the images, afterwards, when I am looking at all of the albums, sometimes I will notice a Red Dot Notification to the right of the album name.

When this notification dot appears, all I have to do is delete the short 3 second video-pics and the red dot notification is gone.

I find it odd, that these same exact short 3 second video-pics can be in other albums that I have, and not get this red dot notification appear for some albums.

I have cleared the storage cache, data, restarted the tablet, Customization Service is not on, sync is not on, turned off notifications, Select Essential albums, Shared album notifications. Nothing works...

Has anyone else take these Live 3 second images noticed the samething happening with their Samsung Gallery?

Here's a screenshot, when I am looking at all the albums, and how some albums with the video-pics as I've described might show the red notification dot.

Is Samsung aware of this issue? And does anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks

That looks like the dot that appears for new items. I don't think it has anything to do with it being a video, i just think its a notification that the album has new images. As soon as you open the album, the dit disappears. It's not disappearing because you deleted the video, it's disappearing because you opened the album

My guess is that the live photos with an mov file extension were created on an iPad and may have compatibility issues in a Samsung Android environment.

Hi @realaud & @neilth

I have read online that the red dot notification is when you make a new album, but I don't see it always apearing when creating a new album too, and then it seemed like it was acting up with the short live pic-videos.

If this is suppose to be a new album notification, when does it disappear? Also if there are no new albums created, does it eventually go away over a certain period of time?

Because if I click on a newly created album and view some pics, then go back out, I see it is gone, but if I restart Samsung Gallery it returns.

I just created a new album and added pics to it, now this new album has the red dot notification, and it's gone from the previous one I posted.

Thanks

It's not the making of a new album; it's the addition of a new image in the album. The red dot goes away as soon as you open the album showing the dot, as it indicates you viewed the new image.  It will appear again if and when you add another new image to the album.  Just like sometimes you see the red/orange dot by the settings menu in some apps to show that there's a new setting or notification.  It's harmless and is only for your information. If it appears on a newly made album, it's not because the album is new, but because you added images to the album.  It will remain until the album is opened and only re-appear if you add new items to the album, such as if you take a new screenshot, a dot will appear alongside the screenshot album until you open the album. If you take a new photo, a dot will appear alongside the camera album until you open the album.  If you then move the new photo to a different album, the album you moved it to will show a dot. If you create a new album with the new photos, the new album will have the dot until you open it.

Hello @realaud

Sometimes when I create a new album and add images, or add images to an existing album, if I open that album, the red dot doesn't go away till the next day.

There is a Notification setting for the Gallery, I wish Samsung made it so it disabled this too, I don't need to be notified for what I just did.

Thanks

The dot may go away after a period of time, but it goes away immediately after opening the album, whether you do it right after you added stuff or a week from now.  The first time you open an album with new images, the dot goes away.  IT IS ONLY AN INFORMATIVE DOT TO LET YOU KNOW THERE ARE NEW IMAGES IN THE ALBUM OR A NEW ALBUM IN THE GALLERY. Why is this so hard to understand, and why does it bother you that it is there?

Hi @realaud

It will go away when I look inside the album that has a notification, but if I restart the gallery, it will reappear. It will only completely go away the following day.

I don't use, have installed the Members app, it's my understanding you can submit bug reports through it. But does Samsung have anywhere online to submit Feedback and Bug Reports?

Thanks

It is not a bug. It is perfectly normal behavior. Why does it bother you? You can only submit a bug report through the members app. It comes pre installed on your phone. Look in the Samsung folder in your app drawer. If i is not there, you can download it from the Galaxy store.

I wasn't specifically asking about a bug report for the gallery, but if the app is the only way, as well as feedback.

I did find a post where a Mod mentions feedback can be submitted here on the Samsung Community.
