I found a solution on androidcentral.com site. They provided a link to a version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) that worked for me - despite the fact that I had already downloaded and installed it from the Microsoft site. However this appears to be a Service Pack so it might be different to the VC++ 2008 that I already installed. Here's the direct dl link ;
This worked for me!
I just installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and on Windows 10 Pro x86 and Smart Switch Software just started installing.
Thanks for sharing.
OK here's what I did. I did a re-install of win 10 but chose the option to keep certain data. Tried to initiate Smart Switch but to no avail. Got the "side by side configuration" error. Installed the said 2008 files and Smart Switch worked.
However I could not get over the fact that a massive company like MS would need us to install 2008 files manually to make a simple program work.
Therefore I did a re-installation of Win 10 but this time a chose the option to keep nothing, and Hey Presto! Smart Switch worked with no problems and no installing "old" C++ files separately.
Hope this helps.
