UI 7 killing my Tab S8 Ultra

The first thing I noticed after my Tab S8 Ultra received UI7 is the barely responsive S-pen. Trying to use what is now called "AI Select" starts with a 5-7 second delay before the pen is responsive and I can actually select something. I have turned off all AI functions since that's not what I bought this tablet for. With UI 6.1, the pen was way more responsive with barely any delay before being able to use it.

This morning the Tab was completely dead/battery drained. The Tab was unused from 8 a.m. yesterday to 7 a.m. this morning. The battery was at 45% yesterday morning.

This is the first time I've ever had this happen since I bought it in 2023. I can usually go 3-4 days before charging.

Since I only use the Tab for a couple of hours in the morning to read my online newspapers and emails, long ago I created a mode/routine that puts it into power saving and turns off Wi-Fi until 6 a.m. the next morning.

So what on Earth is going on in UI7 that demands so much power and what can I do to stop it?

@zoltar_speaks Did you wipe the device cache partition after the update? I recommend that you do this after every device update. It wipes out incompatible or outdated cache information which might be incompatible after the update. It does not erase any user data nor applications.

To wipe the device cache partition:

1. Connect a USB C cable from the Tablet to a phone or computer.

2. Power off your device.
3. Power up while holding down the Volume up key and the Side key until the Samsung logo appears.
4. An Android recovery menu will appear.
5. Use the Volume down key to scroll down to Wipe cache partition.
6. Click the side key to select it.
7. Use the Volume down key to scroll down to Yes.
8. Click the side key to select it. The Cache will be wiped almost instantaneously.
9. Click the side key to select "Reboot system now"

No I didn't do this. It just installed on its own when I was using it for those few hours I have it enabled. I've seen these recommendations before and I'm not sure why it doesn't do this automatically during their update process.

If wiping the cache partition does not help, send feedback through the Samsung Members app with logs enabled. The logs will be reviewed and you will receive a response in the Samsung Members app.

Here is the link with those steps: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692

Thanks for the suggestion. I wiped the cache but it didn't make any difference in the lag between the times that you tap on "AI Select" and can actually draw or circle on the screen. As for battery usage, it is now at 98% and I reactivated the mode to put it in power saving, no sync, no Wi-Fi until tomorrow morning.

This sounds like something developer's of the update should automated, and not something your average user wants to mitigate because of concern for mistakenly damaging devices functionality.

An update. The first day after wiping the cache wasn't a huge drop in power - only about 4%. However, this morning, the battery was down 25% from the previous day. Considering it only gets about an 1-hour of daily use and the rest of the day a mode sets it to power saver and no Wi-Fi from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. the next morning, this a fairly large drop.
