VPN problem

I have a new Samsung s4 Tab SM T830 (wifi only).

Also Samsung s8 mobile.

I am using Express VPN on the mobile and works fine.

For some reason it will not work on the S4.

I have reinstalled but same issue.

The wifi signal is exelent.

The error I am getting is UNABLE TO SIGN IN CHECK YOUR CONECTION.

There support  sugested changing the DNS (whatever that is)!

I am not comfortable changing the settings on a brand new device and I do not think I should have to.

I have considered changing the VPN provider to IP Vanish but will I get the same issue.

Any help appreciated.

Re: VPN problem

I just installed it and it connected first try to the New Jersey server so I dont think there's an incompatability.

Try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it.

Not sure the DNS is the issue but you can change it on your router setup or on the Tab S4. I'm not going to get into that unless you come back and ask me how to do it.

Re: VPN problem

Hi   thanks for that. Not happy about messing with DNS as far as i am concerned the vpn should work without that. I have a Samsung S8 mobile

and it works well on that. Thanks again

Re: VPN problem

I use Winscribe for my VPN, got a lifetime subscription for almost nothing.  I travel all over the country and connect without any issues.

I agree with you regarding the DNS however if ExpressVPN support suggested it there might be something peculiar with their software. As for the DNS in your router most people, including myself use Google which is 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4

If you havent already tried, It might be worth taking your Tab to a Wifi hotspot like Starbucks or McDonalds and try connecting there since those hotspots will likely be using a different DNS then your home router.

Good luck

Re: VPN problem

Hello again

I have managed to get to the DNS settings.

1 DNS    8.8.8.8

2 DNS  192.168.2.1

I left 1 alone and entered 8.8.4.4 in 2 and saved it.

But it automatically goes back to 192.168.2.1

Perhaps I am doing some thing wrong but I cannot see what.

Can you help further.

Thanks

Totally weird.  That secondary DNS is pointing to something local and I would assume it's wrong.  Make sure you have deselected "obtain DNS automatically"  which is usually the only way you can add the static DNS ip's.

Also, any mistake when typing in the secondary address will revert back to the original when you save it, which is likely what happened.
